Here you can enjoy operetta in all its brilliance. Golden arias from classical and soviet operettas are performed by the leading soloists and young actors. But the main hero of the evening will of course become timeless fiery cancan!
Operetta is a musical performance which has a comical plot and the dialogs are naturally mixed with singing, musical and dance episodes. J.Offenbach and F.Hervey are traditionally seen as the founders of operetta. Russia, where no famous operetta has been created, is nonetheless practically the main and practically the only one keeper of this genre in the world. There are nowadays around thirty theatres with repertoires based on classical operetta (Kalman, Legar, Strauss, more seldom – Offenbach).
And those theatres are far from being empty: the audience is quite content even with those routine productions that are not held in high regard by the critics. It seems that operetta goes surprisingly well with the mentality of Russian city-dweller.
