BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Two leading companies in the world entertainment industry - “Stage Entertainment” and “Disney” - present a breath-taking premiere of the musical “Beauty and the beast”.
The premiere has taken place on the 11^th of October, 2008. “Beauty and the Beast” takes over the stage of MDM after the most popular and most successful musical in Russia, MAMMA MIA!, which has broken all possible records during its two seasons in Moscow. This time new production is scheduled to stay in Moscow until April, 2009 and then a large tour through many other Russian cities is planned.
“Beauty and the beast” is a musical based on the world-known legendary romantic story, that tells about eternal treasures such as love, beauty and faith.
Apart from the wonderful songs from the film, written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, “Beauty and the Beast” includes also songs written especially for Broadway version by Mr. Menken, a composer awarded with eight Oscars. Libretto has been written by famous Broadway writer Howard Ashman and legendary Tim Rice who participated in creating such shows as “Evita” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” together with Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
This Disney classic tells the tale of an enchanted prince in the shape of a hideous beast and the intelligent woman who enters his life and must learn to love him if the curse is ever to be broken. This is going to be a show that will outshine any other with its brilliance.
Broadway premiere of this musical has taken place in 1994 and since then the musical has been an unprecedented success: only on Broadway it has been showed more than 5 000 times, 30 million people have seen the musical all over the world, and its total box-office takings reach 1,5 milliard dollars. Since 1994 till 2007 years the musical has been staged in 115 cities in 15 countries. Main parts have been performed by several stars, among whom can be named Toni Braxton and Hugh Jackman. Since the premiere musical received a lot of famous awards which includes “Tony Awards” and “Golden Globe” for the music.
“Beauty and the Beast” will be preformed in Moscow daily from October, 2008 until April, 2009 and then a tour through the biggest Russian cities is planned.
As Dmitriy Bogachev, the general manager of “Stage entertainment’ and producer of the “Beauty and the Beast”, commented, this shall be the first experience of touring with such a big international production in its original version through Russian cities. But as he pointed out, the production is so beautiful that people from other cities need to have the possibility to see it too.
